A line-shaft turbine is the biggest workhorse we set. When the job is irrigation across acres, or watering a big herd at scale, this is the pump built to move serious volume out of a deep well — thousands of gallons an hour, hour after hour. It's an agricultural and commercial machine, and it does what a house pump or a windmill simply can't.
A line-shaft turbine is a vertical pump built in stages. Down in the well sit a stack of bowls, each with an impeller, and those impellers are turned by a long line shaft that runs up the center of the column pipe to a motor sitting at the surface. Each bowl adds lift, so you can stack them for depth; the impellers are what move the big volume. Because the motor lives up top out of the water, it's easy to get to, and the whole thing is built for heavy, sustained duty.
A submersible carries its motor down in the well, sealed underwater, and it's a fine choice for a house or a moderate demand. A line-shaft turbine keeps the motor at the surface and drives the pump through a shaft — and it's built for volume, plain and simple. When you need big gallons per minute for irrigation or a large operation, and especially at scale from a deep well, the turbine is the pump that keeps up when a submersible would be working at its limit.
We install complete turbine setups and we service the ones already in the ground. That means pulling the column, bowls and line shaft when they need attention — bowl and impeller wear, shaft and bearing service, column and packing work — and setting it all back plumb and true. A turbine has more moving parts down the hole than a submersible, and that's exactly the kind of work we've done for years.
The whole point of a turbine is volume, so it has to be matched to two numbers: the gallons per minute you need at the surface, and what the well can actually sustain without being pulled down. We size the bowls, staging and motor to hit your gpm without over-drawing the well — because a turbine starved of water is a turbine tearing itself up.
Not every place needs one — and we'll tell you straight if a submersible would serve you better and cheaper.
